Top hospitals in Miami by net patient revenue

Over 450,000 people reside in Miami, a city located in the far south of Florida’s eastern coast. In addition to its long stretches of beach and Everglades, Miami has roughly 86 hospitals and 22 integrated delivery networks (IDNs) within its city limits and in the surrounding area, according to Definitive Healthcare data.

We used HospitalView to create a list of the top 20 hospitals in the Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach CBSA based on net patient revenue (NPR). NPR is a standard measurement of a healthcare organization’s financial performance.

What Miami hospitals have the highest net patient revenue?

The Miami hospital with the highest net patient revenue is Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, with an NPR of $2.3 billion. This cancer center is affiliated with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and is South Florida’s only academic-based cancer center and only NCI-designated cancer center. This facility is also a site of Phase I clinical trials and is one of only five Cancer Centers of Excellence in Florida. Currently, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is conducting more than 400 cancer-focused clinical trials, and it is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best hospitals for cancer care in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area.

The hospital with the second highest NPR in Miami is Baptist Hospital, with an NPR of $1.9 billion. This hospital is a part of the Baptist Health IDN, which brings in over $4.6 billion annually, and over 40% of this revenue comes from Baptist Hospital. Baptist Hospital includes three centers of excellence: Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, Miami Cancer Institute, and Miami Neuroscience Institute. It also has a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Baptist Hospital was awarded the Magnet designation for Nursing Excellence in 1998 and still holds this honor with its sixth designation, an accomplishment that fewer than 1% of U.S. hospitals share.

Jackson Memorial Hospital has the third-highest net patient revenue in Miami, with an NPR of $1.5 billion. With over 1,500 staffed beds, Jackson Memorial Hospital has nearly three times as many beds as other top-performing hospitals in Miami, and it is the largest hospital in Miami. This hospital works alongside the University of Miami and has many specialized centers, including the Miami Burn Center, Ryder Trauma Center, the Miami Transplant Institute, and the Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center. Jackson Memorial Hospital is regionally ranked as the #7 hospital in Florida for pediatric care and is nationally ranked in two specialties: rehabilitation (#45) and pediatric diabetes & endocrinology (#45).
