Top hospitals in Dallas-Fort Worth by net patient revenue
Home to nearly 1.3 million people, Dallas is the 9th-most populous city in the U.S. In addition to its Bishop Arts District and Reunion Tower, Dallas also has roughly 170 hospitals and 35 integrated delivery networks (IDNs), according to Definitive Healthcare data.
We’ve created a list using HospitalView of the top 20 hospitals in the Dallas–Fort Worth CBSA based on net patient revenue (NPR). NPR is the money generated from patient services through commercial insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare. It is a standard method for measuring the financial performance of healthcare organizations and is often used to compare them with each other.

What Dallas hospitals have the highest net patient revenue?
The Dallas hospital with the highest net patient revenue is William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, with an NPR of $2.2 billion. This hospital has the distinction of being the top-performing hospital in Dallas despite being open for only a decade, and it was built on the firm foundation that each aspect of its design should enhance the patient’s care and experience. Recently, the hospital completed an expansion costing over $500 million to meet the greater need for specialty care in North Texas; the result is the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute, which includes operating rooms, a newly expanded emergency department, and interventional suites.
William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital is an academic hospital and one of the main teaching hospitals of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Not only is it ranked as the #1 hospital in Dallas-Fort Worth, but it is also the #1 hospital in Texas and has been placed on U.S. News and World Report’s national Honor Roll of best hospitals. It is also nationally ranked in 11 specialties, with some of the highest-ranking being rehabilitation (#15), pulmonology and lung surgery (#16), and diabetes and endocrinology (#17).
The hospital with the second highest NPR in Dallas is Cook Children’s Medical Center, with an NPR of $1.6 billion. This nonprofit facility is the cornerstone of the Cook Children’s Health Care System and is designed specifically for children’s health care needs. Cook Children’s Medical Center is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the #3 hospital in Texas and the #4 in the Southwest. It is also nationally ranked in five children’s specialties, including pediatric cancer (#30), pediatric diabetes and endocrinology (#31), pediatric neurology and neurosurgery (#36), pediatric orthopedics (#40), and pediatric pulmonology and lung surgery (#48).
Children’s Medical Center – Dallas has the third-highest net patient revenue in Dallas, with an NPR of $1.5 billion. It is the flagship hospital of the Children’s Health IDN, which brings in an NPR of $1.8 billion, and more than 80% of its NPR comes from this hospital. Children’s Medical Center is affiliated with UT Southwestern, allowing it to bring innovative technology, life-changing treatment, and the most recent research to its patients. It is also committed to community outreach through schools, corporate boardrooms, social service organizations, city halls, and legislative chambers. U.S. News & World Report has ranked it as the #2 hospital in Texas and the Southwest, and it is nationally ranked in 10 specialties, with the top performing being pediatric orthopedics (#4), pediatric diabetes and endocrinology (#14), and pediatric cancer (#15).
Interestingly, both the 2nd and 3rd place hospitals in the Dallas area are children’s hospitals, showing that Dallas is a hotspot of pediatric care. With their high NPRs, it can also be assumed that the volume of services provided for children at these hospitals is also high, and those in the surrounding areas may choose to travel further to these hospitals for advanced pediatric care.
