What Maryland IDN has the highest net patient revenue (NPR)?

The IDN in Maryland with the highest net patient revenue is Johns Hopkins Medicine, with an NPR of $4.84 billion. It partners with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine to bring the latest medical discoveries to its care facilities.

The IDN with the second highest NPR in Maryland is MedStar Health, with an NPR of $4.81 billion. The University of Maryland Medical System has the third-highest NPR in Maryland, with an NPR of $4 billion.

Neither one of the top two IDNs, based on NPR, makes the top three list of IDNs based on size. This shows that IDN size does not always correlate to its financial success and demonstrates why it is important to use multiple metrics in your commercialization strategy—you cannot always assume one metric based on another.

For those looking to target their marketing and produce effective sales conversations, it is also helpful to know an IDN’s integration level, prescription pattern, and affiliations, on top of their NPR and number of hospitals.

Targeting IDNs in Maryland

In today’s healthcare market, hospitals are no longer the primary focus of care providers and patients; instead, IDNs increasingly oversee patient care, making them a valuable target for suppliers. Furthermore, marketing to IDNs allows you to take advantage of their numerous care facilities, especially if you market to IDNs with larger networks.

However, selling into the healthcare space is complicated, and even more so when you’re looking to target IDNs. Each IDN has a unique model, so a cookie-cutter marketing approach will not be as successful as tailoring your marketing to match the IDN. Understanding Maryland’s broader health system landscape can help you in this endeavor.
