Largest IDNs in Georgia
Georgia is the 8th largest state in the U.S. by population. There are 192 hospitals and healthcare facilities in Georgia, many of which are part of a broader integrated delivery network (IDN).
IDNs are networks of one or more healthcare facilities that can include hospitals, imaging centers, health clinics, or ambulatory surgery centers. The larger an IDN you target, the greater opportunity there is for your product or service to be implemented at more facilities. Furthermore, the higher an IDN’s net patient revenue (NPR), the more money it has to expand its facilities and services.
With help from Definitive Healthcare’s HospitalView, we created two lists: one of the largest IDNs in Georgia based on the number of affiliated hospitals and another of the most financially successful Georgia IDNs based on NPR.

What Georgia IDN has the most affiliated hospitals?
The Georgia health system with the most hospitals is Piedmont Healthcare, with 20 hospitals. This private, not-for-profit health system serves 85% of the Georgia population with safe, convenient, and compassionate care. In addition to its hospitals, Piedmont Healthcare comprises urgent care centers, physician practices, and QuickCare locations.
The health system with the second most affiliated hospitals is Wellstar Health System, with 14 hospitals. These hospitals comprise only part of their 400+ locations across Georgia, and Wellstar Health System also utilizes virtual care to bring 24/7 healthcare access to its members.
Emory Healthcare has the third-highest number of hospitals, with 11 affiliated hospitals. They are affiliated with Emory University, which affords them access to research and specialized expertise, which they utilize in their community outreach endeavors.
While these Georgia IDNs do not have as many hospitals in their network as some of the top IDNs in the country, understanding IDN size can inform your marketing efforts—put simply, the more hospitals an IDN has in their network, the more distribution opportunities might be available to you.

What Georgia IDN has the highest net patient revenue?
The IDN in Georgia with the highest net patient revenue is Piedmont Healthcare, with an NPR of $5.6 billion. Piedmont Healthcare also has the highest number of staffed beds and discharges of all Georgia IDNs.
The IDN with the second highest NPR in Georgia is Northside Hospital System, with an NPR of $5.5 billion, placing it not too far behind the first-place IDN. Impressively, Northside Hospital System nearly dethrones Piedmont Healthcare despite having fewer hospitals, fewer staffed beds, and fewer discharges. This suggests that the patients within the Northside Hospital System have longer lengths of stay and receive more treatments each, which equates to the higher revenue per staffed bed that we see.
Finally, the third-highest NPR in Georgia belongs to Wellstar Health System, which has an NPR of $4.6 billion.
Net patient revenue is the amount of money an IDN makes for their patient services through sources such as Medicare, Medicaid, or insurance. As such, the greater an NPR, the greater an IDN’s financial strength. However, NPR is not the only thing to consider when you’re looking to target your marketing strategies; prescription patterns, affiliations, integration levels, and referrals are also valuable metrics.

It’s challenging to sell into the healthcare space, and even more so when IDNs are your target. Each IDN is unique, so there’s no one-size-fits-all marketing approach that will successfully work for each one.
