The average IT operating expense budget across approximately 4,660 hospitals is $9.2 million. This is about 3% of the average total hospital operating expense of $209 million.

Which hospitals have the highest IT operating budget?

Tisch Hospital has the highest estimated hospital IT expenses at more than $273 million. The facility is a top academic medical center and is among the hospitals with the largest operating expenses.

Coming in at a close second is NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center with IT expenses of $272 million. Like Tisch Hospital, this facility is also a leader in operating expenses and among academic medical centers. It is also one of the hospitals with the highest net patient revenue in the U.S.

The average estimated IT operating budget for the 25 hospitals on the list is $167.1 million. Six of the hospitals are in New York and five are in California.
