Largest IDNs in Wyoming

Of all U.S. states, Wyoming has the smallest population. However, despite having only 584,000 residents, there are 35 hospitals and healthcare facilities in Wyoming, with a few being a part of the state’s two integrated delivery networks (IDNs).

IDNs are networks of one or more healthcare facilities that can include hospitals, physician groups, imaging centers, health clinics, or surgery centers. They may also be referred to as health systems, and the more extensive an IDN’s network, the greater the opportunity it is for your company to reach more facilities through one connection.

With the help of HospitalView, we ranked the two IDNs in Wyoming by their size and financial strength using data from the Medicare Cost Report.

What Wyoming IDN has the most affiliated hospitals?

Wyoming only has two IDNs, and they both have two hospitals each.

Cheyenne Regional Health System serves those in Southeast Wyoming, Western Nebraska, and Northern Colorado. Its healthcare services include specialties such as neuroscience, orthopedics, cardiovascular, cancer, women’s and children’s services, home care, hospice, and rehabilitation.

The other health system in Wyoming is SageWest Health Care. It provides healthcare services to those in central Wyoming and is dedicated to providing community value through support to local, charitable, and civic organizations. What Wyoming IDN has the highest net patient revenue (NPR)?

The IDN in Wyoming with the highest net patient revenue(NPR) is Cheyenne Regional Health System, with an NPR of $372 million. This IDN has over four times as many discharges as Wyoming’s other IDN, SageWest Health Care, which has an NPR of $68 million. The more patients an IDN’s hospitals see, the more services they provide and the more revenue they bring in. As such, it is understandable how Cheyenne Regional Health System’s NPR is so much higher than Wyoming’s other IDN.

While NPR is a key indicator of an IDN’s financial strength, it is not the only metric that is important—other key IDN metrics to consider when targeting your marketing efforts include the prescription patterns, integration level, and referrals of an IDN. For example, both of these IDNs are at a system III integration level, meaning their facilities encompass the care needs of people throughout their entire lives, from cradle to grave, which makes them appealing for Wyoming’s limited population. Knowing this information about Wyoming’s IDNs provides greater insights into the products or services that may benefit these IDNs and their facilities.

If your goal is to sell into the healthcare industry, and more specifically, sell to health systems, making strategic decisions is crucial. Increasing your understanding of the health system landscape through IDN insights can allow each decision you make to have a greater impact. For example, targeting IDNs with a large network of healthcare facilities makes it easier for your medical device or healthcare technology to be used by multiple locations.

When selling a product, finding the right facilities to target is a crucial first step, and having access to data on Wyoming IDNs can help you narrow down your list of targets to those that are most likely to have a need for your product or services.
